Description

Among the updated available technologies in data centers, the raised access flooring system is a perfect choice for data center builders. The concept of a raised floor originates in 1970. In recent years, more and more tech-heavy companies are following this technology.

A raised access flooring system is a constructive method. It is made up of panels supported by pedestals. On the surface of a building's concrete slab, an elevated floor is built. The space between two floors is generally used to run mechanical and electrical services, such as wiring, cable ladders, power cables, and UTP cables.

A raised access floor is now an excellent choice for server or data center builders. It is frequently used in modern office buildings, data centers, computer rooms, and other spaces with cables and mechanical installations. Raised floors can be installed at different heights, from 2 inches to over 4 feet. It depends on the services of accommodation.

Here are some features of raised floor systems:

Solid Panels Raised Floor:

The raised floor is made up of panels on a framework. The measure of the panels is normally 2 feet by 2 feet (600 mm by 600 mm). The panels are usually made of cement core, calcium sulfate, or wood. It remains covered with steel or aluminum.

Pedestals for Raised Floor:

A raised access floor pedestal is a vertical post. It supports the panels of the raised access floor. Its shape is a long tube of an exact measure. The tube has a head and a base. The head has a threaded rod welded to a flat plate with 8 holes. The pedestal with a locking nut in the upper portion is 1 inch adjustable for the exact leveling. The leveling nut allows the correct finished floor height. The base is a flat plate having four round holes. These holes are used for fixing the pedestal with the floor slab by royal plug and screw. It supports the joint between the panels of the raised floor.

Steel stringers connect the pedestal to the access floor panels with screws. Thus, it provides stability.

Some advantages of the raised floor are given below:

1. Keeping the equipment out of sight:

A raised access flooring system has amply of space below the tiles. This space can house the wire, cable ladder, and other necessary tools. Even the cable can also be taken under the floor in an organized way. At this, the entire environment in the server room or data center will look eye-catching. There will not be any gathering of equipment on the floor.

2. Fixing and solving any problem easily.

The panels are set up on a removable structure. If any panel breaks or is damaged for any reason in any place on the floor, it can easily be fixed, lifted by a panel lifter, and replaced or changed. So, it is very easy to repair any part of the floor at an affordable cost when it is needed.

3. Providing easy access for the proper maintenance:

It may be necessary for the technical persons to work in the data center or server room at any time. In this case, they can work in the server room easily, especially in the server rack or on the power distribution board, due to the systematic setup of the floor. Even if they need to work under a raised floor, they can easily lift any panel with the panel lifter and do their work. Even they can re-label the floor within a short time. Actually, the raised flooring system affirms easy access for the engineers, and they can maintain everything easily and exactly.

4. Keeping the equipment cooled:

There are many expensive devices, especially the server in the server room. The server and other devices always need to remain cold. For this reason, among the solid panels, some perforated panels are also used in this system. The perforated panels are generally used alongside the server rack. At this, the cold air can fluctuate easily. Consequently, the devices, along with the servers and the switches in the server rack, remain cooled. The cable with other equipment under the floor also remains cooled. In fact, the cold air protects the servers and other stored things under the floor from overheating.

5. Providing an outstanding setup:

The structure of the raised floor enables the data center builders to organize the room in a systematic way. The high-pressure laminated (HPL) of the panel makes the structure strong enough. The various design of the HPL makes the floor eye-catching. All the necessary equipment can be arranged in this place in an organized way due to the raised flooring system.

At last, it can be asserted that, at present, a standard data center cannot be imagined nowadays without the raised access floor system.
